For the sixteenth consecutive year, work by local artists with disabilities is showcased in the exhibit “Creative Expressions XVI.”
The annual art exhibit offers artists with disabilities an opportunity to display their talents for the public and to be included in the art community. The exhibit features work in a variety of media by artists, children and adults, who have a wide range of abilities and disabilities.
The exhibit is sponsored by the Vanderbilt Kennedy University Center for Excellence on Developmental Disabilities and the Nashville Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities.
Since its inception in 1976, the Mayor’s Advisory Committee has promoted public education and awareness and advocated for individuals with disabilities and their families.
“Creative Expressions XVI” will be displayed in the lobby of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center through Jan. 7, 2011, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Art, including additional work by Grace Walker Goad, is also exhibited at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Artists participating in “Creative Expressions XVI” include Jerry Adams, Anne Ambrose, Kathryn Ambrose, Jenny Cordle, Grace Goad, Deborah Hanson, Laura Hudson, Laura Craig McNellis, Raymond “Chi Chi” Palma, J. Renée Ray, Bernadette Resha, Leigh Richardson, Robert Sanders, Kathy Tupper, Tabitha West, Jalyn Weston, Robert G. White, and Anita Wilson.
The artists will be recognized at the 29th Annual Awards Celebration of the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 5:30 p.m., at the downtown Farmer’s Market, 900 Rosa Parks Boulevard. The public is welcome.
