A dual shout out!:
Herb Williams’ “Pink Slip,” made of Crayola crayons.
1) To the sisters for breast cancer awareness month, ’cause October is pink!
2) And, because the month is also ARTober ~ a celebration of Arts & Humanities. Here’s my fun post from last year featuring our mayor playing a mean jimbe. (Or trying.)
This year, I’m doubling up with a shout out to one of Nashville’s most inventive and original artists, and an all-around nice guy, Herb Williams, aka, the crayon artist. I knew that “Pink Slip,” my favorite of Williams’ Crayola creations, stood chest forward in the artcentric airport-area Hotel Preston. I did not know until this writing, however, that the hotel commissioned Williams for the piece that, last I was there, posed outside their bar, The Pink Slip.
A Google search also unearthed this interview by NPR on the unique artist. Read there about how Williams has an individual account with Crayola and orders thousands of them, such as 50-pound cases of 3,000 of them. See more of Williams crayon art at his site: www.herbwilliamsart.com
And: Go Nashville! You fabuous city!
