Did you know that today, Monday, October 24, is National Real Food Day?
I believe that eating fake food is part of our country's cultural degradation. That and television. Seriously, I do. Junk in. Junk out….And yes, not only have I posted this in "Nature" as a category for this post, I've also posted it in Spirituality because I believe that if we are not eating food that truly nourishes our bodies it impedes the ability of our consciousness to rise. It is also a Spiritual issue how we treat our precious Gift of Creation in how we use our natural resources to grow our food. Truly a serious issue. I also experienced the difference that eating real food made in my body, skin, hair and how I felt when I switched to a whole foods diet in 1987. I've been committed since. Okay, maybe I'm getting a tad "preachy" here….But I also believe this is part of out national healthcare crisis. How we eat! (And yes, I confess upfront have a wicked sweet tooth.)
According to my buddies at the fabulous Franklin Farmer's Market [Italics mine]:
Food Day is a nationwide movement with the goal of transforming the American diet. The Food Day challenge is to involve people all across the country to push for healthy, affordable food produced in a sustainable and humane way and to change agricultural policies to support small and mid-size sustainable farms. The first step for that goal is to eat real food. Too many people eat meals composed of salty, overly processed packaged food; fast foods and high calorie sugary drinks. What you eat should help you to stay healthy. Instead, too many of us have diets that contribute to thousands of deaths from heart attacks, stroke, diabetes and cancer. What is real food? Meals built around vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Eat real food and change your life for the better. Here's an easy way to start.
