The music-literary-art scene has some notable relative newcomers; Garden & Gun magazine and "New Grass" sensation Dread Clampitt. Only problem is that this best new magazine–since the 80s–to come out of the South about the South, failed to name Dread Clampitt in their round up of the region's best new blue grass: "Not Your Daddy's Bluegrass." Shame.
Once-upon-a-time Husband 2.0 and I grooved to the lure of this band of handsome young talent when our Johnny-on-the-spot new friends at our annual fall Grayton Beach, Fla., haunt insisted that we needed to hear "Dread" perform that very afternoon at the famous Red Bar. We accepted the invitation, a bit hesitantly and were instantly hooked. We managed to rock out with the crew about three more times during our short stay at this Fort Walton sweet spot.
Sure. I know you're busy, just turn down the volume–your office mates won't hear–and toe dance beneath your desk while you open the mail…
Uh HUH! Caught ya peekin' there while busying yourself with the mail. Yep, that's the gorgeous and after-show uber chic-magnet-looker Kyle Ogle singing the lead in his song, "Livin' out of Leavin'." Here's another Music City Roots video of Dread Clampitt's performance at the Loveless Cafe venue in Nashville featuring Balder Saunder's sexy-sad-honeyed voice singing "A Selfish Dream." Listen closely to Saunders' impressive mandolin licks and it's obvious why the esteemed fiddler Sam Bush, also featured on this video embeded above, thinks they're worthy of frequent jams. "Dread" recently performed with Bush at The Basement in Nashville.
