Three down and two to go. The Seminar Slut tramps on into 2011 and I am so excited to hear Dr. Brene Brown, Ph.D. this Thursday at Nashville's annual Blissdom blogging conference! Blissdom was started by Allison Worthington, a smart and savvy mother with her finger on the pulse of the new wave of communication. Initially, a collection of mommy bloggers, the conference population quickly expanded and I'm so excited that this group of women will have the opportunity to hear another mother and also a blogger who's got a transformative message for us all. (Please do not read this as a knock to Mommy Bloggers. Worthington has helped bring greater esteem, recognition and deserved earnings to the genre. Some of us, like me, identify ourselves more as women who blog and who also happen to be mothers. And, "The Journey with Grace" is also an author platform blog….)
I've been following Brown's blog, Ordinary Courage, for a while, thanks to Karen Walrond, another Texas-based blogger (Chookooloonks,) whose work I adore and challenges me to think about spirituality, mental-emotional health and the beauty of our lives as mothers, women, human beings. Brown's work does the same in her unique flavor as a down-to-earth, real-life researcher. I first featured Brown last year here–with a clip from her PBS interviews. Now more of the world is learning about Brown thanks to her plum spot on TEDx See below. Yes, we're all busy, but I bet, like me, you can turn up the volume and sort paper, wash the dishes and still be inspired by Brown's message. Enjoy!
I think that you should write at least 2 weeks worth of posts befroe you even publish one. That way you have back-up’ in case life happens and you can’t write a blog post one day you can just publish a draft you have already completed. Content content content is THE most important by far but I think that having a simple, easy to read blog is important and a way for people to contact you & subscribe (go to feedburner.com & sign up for a free account and make sure you allow all types of feed readers & email subscriptions then put the link on your sidebar so people can subscribe), join lots of link parties and comment on lots of different blogs with really thoughtful well-thought out comments. That way your name is out there, your blog is readable (no black background with white letters-it is so hard for everyone to read lol & no auto-play music..people just click away really fast so as not to let on they are reading blogs at work or wake up the baby), and you have consistent quality content.
