Grace caught in the loving, innocent & pure gaze of her new friend, KK. Use with permission, only; Leisa A. Hammett
Her name is KK. From her short stature, she approaches closely,
looking up and very directly into the eyes of those she meets. Her gaze
is a bit piercing, yet penetrates her subject with honest Warmth, Purity
and loving Innocence. Words sometimes follow her searching look slowly as this
young adult woman with a developmental disability takes in the captured
of her attention. She cocks her head and proceeds with a series of
child-like questions satisfying her curiosity.
KK is a fixture at my gym. She is a sibling of an employee and a helper in the gym's Full Circle program
for children and youth with disabilities. She is Grace's new friend.
She announces with a hug, which Grace willingly reciprocates, that she
loves her.
Each week I am also the subject of KK's attention.
And what she gives me is a Gift and a reminder. In her eyes, I am given
a clear message: Of Purity. Of Innocence. Of the rightful and deserved
Place that those with developmental disabilities have in our world. The
rest of us could stand to take note and follow KK's example.
intensely sweet photograph, heart-opening!
Awww. I love the description “heart-opening!” KK’s sister emailed me today that she had to force herself not to cry at the office when she read it and subsequently forwarded to everyone she knew. :-)Thanks.
