I've been following Nashville-based blogger (and former anchorwoman) Lindsay Ferrier on Instagram as she's covered the Republican National Convention and the Democratic National Convention for CafeMom. In February, during a then Nashville-based blogging conference, which I regrettably did not attend this year, I and nine other mothers were chosen to be interviewed by Ferrier for a CafeMom video series, "Moms Matter 2012." I was told that I'd be asked to discuss my experiences of raising a child on the autism spectrum. I'm not sure if Ferrier thought I (or others?) would be "gun-shy" if we'd known whe was going to ask about politics, as well. Had I of known, I would have been much more prepared and articulate in discussing my views. She asked me some surprise politically based questions during the interview and it was only after this was posted and I found it online did I realize the intent. Not that I'm complaining. (Happy to say I'm about ten pounds lighter now. I've heard about those cameras! Man!) This is the first of two videos from the series that I'll post: this composite, above and my individual interview, next week. Others can be found on line here. In April, I was interviewed, here, by Ferrier's husband, Dennis, who is a reporter with WSMV, Channel 4. (I messed up big time and did not get a copy of the video. Here's the transcript.)
Hi Lisa,
I’m so sorry if you didn’t understand the intent of the interview. I thought I had made it clear that I was CafeMom’s election correspondent, the interview was for Moms Matter, our non-partisan election initiative, and that I wanted your perspective and personal story as a mother with a child on the autism spectrum.
Anyway, you were wonderful! Thank you for your participation.
Lindsay, thanks for your reply. I could not easily call up the correspondence. I didn’t get that at all. I think I heard election correspondent and did not put two and two together and it flew over my head. I am so used to being interviewed about autism that I just focused on that part. This also teaches me (again,) to have followed my intuition and left out this little part in the post. I hope it did not come across offensively. Have enjoyed your coverage of the conventions.
