Why did I vote in this election? Honestly? I actually thought about not voting this year because I am so not charged by the gubernatorial race here in Tennessee. We're scraping the bottom of the barrel. But, though my candidate by default will lose–by almost all accounts, I realized it was important, not only to exercise my fundamental American right in my freedom to vote, but also to still make my voice count and be heard. Despite the bleak likelihood of my particular beliefs being put into office in the governor's race, my vote/voice still counts. Without it, it's a message that my beliefs and voice are nonexistent–regardless of if my party loses.

A democratic activist friend posted when on her Facebook page after she voted early that she gave thanks to those who fought for her right to vote, especially the women. Now think about that. Oh, how lucky we are and what we take for granted. Just think, if we are people of color or at least women because of our race and our gender, we were not always able to vote.

Again, please vote, regardless of your affiliation.
