A long, mind-fitful meditation ended.
Slowly opening my eyes, I studied the familiar room. My great room. Still. Quiet. Golden in the light coming through a set of opened shades.
I rose to open the rest of them and I questioned:
Why do I feel more Grateful in Winter?
The answer came.
Quickly.
…Because Winter strips us Bare.
Both Earth and her Dwellers.
We are left naked like the branches reaching out toward to a Great Big sky.
Our frolic is gone.
Time to batten down the hatches
and go Within.
And there,
Within
Lies the Hearth
And
Our Riches.
The Riches of our inner self
bare of the frolic and external trappings.

A Self
Waiting
Quietly.
Patiently.
For Us to
Come Home.
Hello…
And, Welcome.
Now, let's Listen.
And Go
Further
Within.
There is Warmth
And
Bounty
There.
And that's when we find,

If Open,
All….
So much…
for which
to be
Grateful.
Beautiful!

Lovely, it is good to think of winter as a place to begin anew. 🙂
Thank ya’ll!
This whole post is beautiful, Leisa. I silhouettes of the darker shots, and the bokeh on teh others is gorgeous. You do not give yourself enough credit for your photos.
I love the symbolism and metaphor of the hearth – the warm centre of home – and that heart is contained within the word. Thank you for a lovely poem.
Thank you, Jet. I have been checking your photoblog–? I appreciate your kindness here. I really want to know how to be better and one of things I’ve got to do is learn WHAT i’m doing. I did some great snow shots the last four days. I’m sure I’ll post them eventually. Need to upload to flickr. Technology intimidates the hell out of me. Also, for 30 years I worked with professional photojournalists who went on to photograph for Time, Ntl Geo and NYT! I am defining putting some passion into this this year and having fun and looking for ways to expand it and experiment blending it with mixed media collage. Something about turning 50 this year. (“DON’T WAIT!”)
WOW, the words and the photography are very well-chosen.
The image of winter stripping us bare is chilling and deep. Beautiful imagery, beautiful writing.
Many thanks,
Karen (Folkheartpress)
Thank you!
